Based on that, we at bad monkey circus live, breathe and believe in the following approach…

1. Avoid Risk and Die**
In times of change the greatest threat is to take none at all. And what is worse than risk… being ignored altogether.

2. Why Not Ask ‘Why Not?’
Assumptions are just that. Anything you assume is usually a half-truth or generalizations that once served a useful purpose but now hinders truly creative solutions.

3. Take a Strong Stand
No one gives a cr@&#!! about your advertising… Consumers are bombarded with hundreds of ads every waking minute. Your ad is the last thing they care to see. Given that, we believe great work can make them care with these three elements:
RELEVANT - so your audience has a reason to buy.
LIKEABLE - so consumers will connect with you.
UNEXPECTED – so everyone will actually remember you.

4. Don’t Pander
You cannot make every customer happy with your campaign or selling message. Do not let a few bad apples impede your strong connection to your core audience.

5. Give Up Control
Consumers now control brands. Smart marketers recognize this and embrace it rather than fight the powerful truth. Knowing them – how they live, breathe, eat and sleep – has opened many doors for us. And there’s no better advertising than the truth.

6. Expose Yourself
Please pull your pants back-up... What we mean is a relationship of trust between brand and consumer, like that between two people, is built upon honesty. Do not be afraid to be yourself and revel in your flaws and imperfections as these elements can be spun around to endearing qualities and originality.

7. Make Enemies
All brands need to position themselves against an alternative. An archrival is not a bad thing - David and Goliath – the underdog story is more entertaining… The AVIS brand was built on that… We’re #2… We try harder!

8. Don’t be information pushy...
Leave Them Wanting More… Avoid the temptation to reveal all of your assets at once. Be cool and have a little fun with your key message. Keep your ad campaign fresh by focusing on a key message with each ad. Or try soft selling with viral marketing/entertainment (branded content)… the new-school version of branding.

9. Outthink the Competition
Think smarter than the other dude. Do not be led into temptation by the fast buck and don’t try and outspend them. Good ideas don’t begin and end with our creative teams. They can come from anywhere or anyone… our cleaning lady, mailman, interns, dog, etc. The best idea. No matter the source… always wins.

10. Don’t Be Seduced By Technology
The media is not the message anymore. The message is the message is the message.

11. Know Who You Are
If you don’t understand what it is that you are good at you might be tempted to try and be something you are not. Harness the power inherent in your brand to attract and bond with consumers.

12. Do not insult the consumer…
We create ideas with an IQ. BMC is an agency founded on this simple idea that the work should be smart and connect with your customer. With that way of thinking, we do not play lowest common denominator roulette by dumbing down the work. It wastes money and insults consumers.
